Practice Direction on Recording Proceedings

Practice Directions support the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB) Rules of Procedure and provide guidance about what the CICB expects of the parties and, in turn, what the parties can expect from the CICB. They assist in understanding the Rules.

The CICB records its oral hearings and pre-hearings using a digital recorder. Hearings conducted before August 1, 2017 were not recorded.

Given the sensitive nature of CICB proceedings and to prevent any misuse of recordings, parties and hearing participants will not be permitted to listen to the hearing recording or to obtain a copy of it.

Record of Proceeding for Appeals

When the CICB is served with an appeal of its decision the Social Justice Tribunals Ontario will prepare a record of the CICB's proceeding and provide it to the appellant. If the hearing was recorded the CICB's record will include a transcript of the recording.

The CICB will not produce a transcript of a recording unless served with a Notice of Appeal which has been filed with the Court.

Effective as of August 1, 2017
